Transportation of non-disabled children to private and parochial schools outside the district is available up to a maximum of 15 miles. Each year requests must be made by April 1st, preceding the start of the school year, for those who wish to continue or begin transportation.

Read Across America connects staff to students

The Hicksville Congress of Teachers hosted its annual Read Across America Virtual Event on March 8. Lead by Hicksville High School Librarian Christine Anderson, the annual event is held in the high school library and via Google Meet teachers, district administrators, and Board of Education members read a selection of children's books to the seven elementary schools.

My SchoolBucks Program Fee Update
03/08/2024
Beginning March 7, 2024, the program fees for funding student meals through MySchoolBucks will increase from $2.75 to $3.25 for each credit/debit card payment and from $2.49 to $2.75 for each electronic check payment. This affects ala carte purchases only since all breakfast and lunch meals are free.

Elementary students celebrate Year of the Dragon

First grade students at Old Country Road School in Hicksville recently celebrated this year’s Lunar New Year, Year of the Dragon, with a parade around the school. Students also enjoyed making hats, masks and lanterns to celebrate the occasion.

Middle School students make Lunar New Year crafts

Hicksville Middle School students recently recognized the Year of the Dragon by making lucky cat decorations, red envelopes, and lanterns in honor of this year’s Lunar New Year. Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures. This event fostered understanding and respect for the rich and diverse cultures seen at Hicksville Middle School.

Pre-K lottery deadline is February 9th

The Hicksville Public School District is offering a full day Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2024-2025 school year. To be eligible to participate, children must be 4 years of age prior to December 1, 2024 with a birthdate between December 2, 2019 and December 1, 2020.

HS Brings Kindergarten Monster Designs to Life
02/08/2024
High School students in Ms. Porter's Lifespan Studies class partnered with East Street Elementary School classes after learning about Early Childhood. All kindergarten students designed a Monster Doll on paper and the high school students were able to bring their creation to life. Each Student received a hand sewn doll, their original monster doll design and a short story written by the HS students about their doll! Yesterday students delivered the dolls and the excitement and smiles of the kindergartners were the perfect way to cap off this great collaborative project!

Thankful and Grateful for our Hicksville Community

The Hicksville Public Schools and the Hicksville community came together this Thanksgiving season for a food drive that made a difference in the lives of nearly 100 local families in need. Coordinated by Efthymia Rafaelides, K-12 Guidance Supervisor, the school district partnered with the Hicksville Council of PTAs, Children’s Hope India (CHI) and Kiwanis Club of Hicksville to sponsor the annual food drive.

MS students share through creative writing

Seventh and eighth grade students enrolled in an elective creative writing class at Hicksville Middle School recently wrapped up their unit studying the writing techniques of mood, imagery, and suspense in a short horror scene with the emerging writers presenting an excerpt from their own story with fellow classmates. Additionally, the creative writing students created a cover to showcase their mastery of their writing in this genre.

Eighth graders attend assembly on addiction

Eighth graders at Hicksville Middle School recently attended an assembly featuring Addiction Research Scientist Dr. Stephen Dewey speaking on the science of addiction. Discussion topics included causes of addiction and the reasons for underlying disease progression, internet and video gaming addiction, vaping and the vast number of drugs and behaviors associated with this disease and more.

High School students performed “Mother Hicks”
11/30/2023
Hicksville High School Repertory Company presented “Mother Hicks” by Suzan Zeder at the Charles “Chuck” Arnold Theater with three performances on Nov. 17 and 18. One of the main characters, a deaf boy named Tuc, helps to narrate the story is played by Hicksville junior John Ryan Chaplin who signs his dialogue while other actors on stage speak the words.

East Street students speak with local veterans

East Street Elementary School in Hicksville hosted local veterans representing all branches of the military on Nov. 20. The program gave fourth and fifth grade students the opportunity to participate in an hour-long question and answer session with the veterans. In anticipation of the program, students attended with questions in hand they wished to ask each of the visiting veterans.
