Good morning!

Today is Wednesday, May 13th, 2020. Our Social Emotional topic for today is: Giving and Accepting Compliments.

Compliments are kind words that we say to tell each other that we see something great about them! When someone gives us a compliment, it may make us feel happy and special. Compliments can make us feel many emotions; including proud, happy, joyful, excited, and loved. Compliments can be given for many reasons, including things about a person’s outside and a person’s inside. A compliment about someone’s outside would be something about how a person or their things look. These compliments may be about their hair, clothes, shoes, eyes, hat, backpack, etc. A compliment about someone’s inside is about what a person does, how they act, etc. When someone gives us a compliment, we can smile and say “Thank you”. You can also give them a compliment in return. Giving and accepting compliments can improve our self-esteem by making us feel good about ourselves as a friend and a person. Compliments also build our self-esteem by helping us to notice the good things about us on both the inside and outside.

The activity for today will help us to practice the skills needed to give and receive a compliment.

As always remember that we would love to see comments, pictures, and even videos of you practicing our daily Social/Emotional Activities.

Good Morning!

Today is Tuesday, May 12th, 2020. Our Social Emotional Learning Activity for today is Positive Affirmations.

An affirmation is anything you say or think about yourself. All of our self-talk, both negative and positive, are affirmations. When kids are prone to constantly saying and thinking negative things about themselves, they will need to retrain their brains to think more positively. They can do this through practicing positive affirmations for self-esteem. Positive affirmations are statements designed to build self-esteem through changing negative self-talk. These affirmations for self-esteem make children feel good about themselves and help them embrace their positive qualities.

For today’s activity see the attached affirmation booklets. Your child will add the missing affirmations to remind themselves of what they want to invite and the strengths that they already have. Once your child creates their affirmations, you want to make sure they practice them daily. The more consistent they are with this, the more likely they are to keep negative thinking at bay.

Remember you can always write back to us letting us know how you like this activity. We would love to see comments, pictures, and even videos of you practicing our daily Social/Emotional Activities!

Good morning!

Today is Monday, May 11th, 2020. Our Social Emotional Learning Topic for today is: Self-Esteem.

Self-esteem means to love and believe in yourself. Some kids and adults sometimes may not feel so good about themselves. They may have negative thought patterns or fears before trying new things or after they have failed or have made a mistake, but they do not realize that making mistakes is just part of learning and growing! To develop a good self-esteem is important to notice the good things about yourself, the work and effort you put into things, to think positively, to be kind to yourself and others, and also to feel empowered by your uniqueness. When you cultivate a good self-esteem, you are more likely to keep trying until you achieve your goals. This will help you feel confident and accepting of who you are! Today’s activity is to help you recognize positive aspects of yourself. Please use the attachment worksheet to write down all the great things about you! Don’t be shy!

As always remember that we would love to see comments, pictures, and even videos of you practicing our daily Social/Emotional Activities.

¡No seas tímido!

Good Morning!

Today is Friday, May 8th, 2020. Our Social Emotional Learning Activity for today is Resilience.

All children are capable of working through challenges and coping with stress. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from stress, adversity, failure, challenges, or even trauma. It’s not something that kids either have or don’t have; it’s a skill that kids develop as they grow. All kids encounter stress of varying degrees as they grow.

We all can develop resilience, and we can help our children develop it as well. It involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned over time. Following are tips from American Psychological Association to build resilience.

  1. Make connections

  2. Help your child by having him or her help others

  3. Maintain a daily routine

  4. Take a break

  5. Teach your child self-care

  6. Move toward your goals

  7. Nurture a positive self-view

  8. Keep things in perspective and maintain a hopeful outlook

  9. Look for opportunities for self-discovery

  10. Accept that change is part of living

For today’s activity see the attached worksheets. Have your child fill in the “I” statements and the soccer ball patches with what resilience means to them.

Remember you can always write back to us letting us know how you like this activity. We would love to see comments, pictures, and even videos of you practicing our daily Social/Emotional Activities! Have a great weekend!

Buenos Dias!

Good Morning!

Today is Thursday, May 7th, 2020. Our Social Emotional Learning Activity for today is Responsibility.

Teaching children responsibility is an important part to their social emotional development. When speaking to your child about responsibility, note that there are different forms of responsibility. For example, being responsible, taking responsibility and having responsibilities are all different. Overall, being responsible means you do the things you are expected to do and accept the consequences (results) of your actions. Being responsible may mean having a positive consequence for the job and being irresponsible may lead to negative consequences.

For today’s activity see the attached worksheet. There are a few scenarios. Have your child answer the questions and ask them what other outcomes could happen if the characters in the scenarios were a little more responsible.

Remember you can always write back to us letting us know how you like this activity. We would love to see comments, pictures, and even videos of you practicing our daily Social/Emotional Activities! Have a great week!
