Hicksville Middle School celebrated the unveiling of its new PS I Love You Bench on February 13, coinciding with the school’s observance of P.S. I Love You Day. The bench serves as a meaningful addition to the school community, fostering kindness, inclusion, and support for all students.
The purpose of the PS I Love You Bench is to remind students that they are never alone. It stands as a symbol of community, empathy, and connection offering a welcoming space where friendships can begin and compassion can grow.
The global P.S. I Love You Day movement encourages individuals and communities to spread messages of love, kindness, and hope while promoting mental health awareness and ending bullying.
Hicksville Middle School received its PS I Love You Day Bench through an essay selection process. The opportunity was brought to the school through the advocacy and efforts of Hicksville Health & Physical Education teacher Mr. Anthony Tussie, whose work helped secure the bench for the HMS community. “Today isn’t just about unveiling a bench, it’s about creating a space where every student and staff member is reminded that they matter,” said Mr. Tussie. “P.S. I Love You Day stands for kindness, connection, and mental health awareness. This bench represents more than a seat, it represents support. It represents conversations that matter and the importance of checking in on one another. May it serve as a daily reminder that no one here is ever alone.”
P.S. I Love You Day is a powerful initiative dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, ending bullying, and fostering a culture of kindness and inclusion in schools and communities. Through this initiative, the school reinforces its belief that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact and that sometimes, a simple place to sit can become a place for connection, courage, and care.
