Posted on 01/05/2026

At the December 17 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton recognized several outstanding achievements by an educator and students, highlighting the district’s continued commitment to excellence in music, visual arts, and athletics.

Starting the evening of recognitions, Kerri Kamping, a dedicated music educator in the Hicksville Public Schools, was recently named the recipient of the 2025 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Early Career Achievement Award. This prestigious honor recognizes a PreK–12 music educator who, within the first five to fifteen years of their career, has demonstrated exceptional teaching excellence and a deep commitment to advancing music education across New York State.

Hicksville High School student Raven Canzoneri was selected as a recipient of the Award of Merit for Visual Arts through the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) Scholar–Artist Awards program. Her artwork is currently being showcased as part of this prestigious recognition. The LIAA Scholar Artist Awards program honors outstanding high school artists in Visual Arts, Music, Theater, Dance, and Media Arts. Students are nominated by public, private, and parochial schools across Long Island. From these nominees, monthly winners are selected from Nassau and Suffolk counties throughout the school year. In addition to the Awards of Distinction, twenty students receive Awards of Merit at a year-end recognition event. The program is endorsed by leading state and regional arts and music education organizations.

Hicksville eighth grade student, Hunter Johnson is the annual Holiday Card Winner. His art was selected for its creativity and festive spirit. This annual tradition gives student artists the opportunity to design the District Holiday Card. Each year the contest rotates among the elementary, middle, and high schools.

Closing the evening of recognitions, Hicksville Girls Varsity Tennis Team was celebrated for winning their season as Conference Champions. The girls had an exceptional 2025 season as Conference 3A Champions, posting an impressive 13–1 record. This victory marks the program’s second conference title in three seasons and is particularly noteworthy following the graduation of ten seniors from last year’s team, including seven of eleven starters.

Dr. Fulton concluded his report by congratulating and applauding all again for their dedication and hard work. He reiterated these achievements reflect the talent, dedication, and excellence of Hicksville Public Schools’ students, educators, athletic and art programs.
